I have waited to have rudiments taught to me in the simplest of ways. Here, I get to see many different aspects to each rudiment. I may need one rudiment explained visually on sheet music and another one explained in slow mo; here I get that advantage.
It's amazing to see when I went back to work on, say, the first 5 rudiments. When I had to pull of a basic fill in my last gig (last night,) I found myself pulling off a really cool double stroke roll that even my band mates notice was new and cleaner then ever before. The great thing about the Drum Rudiment System is that it allows students to realize the potential of knowing rudiments. Lionel makes if fun and creative by applying rudiments to grooves and fills around the set.
Within a couple of months of using the Drum Rudiment System I've noticed a rejuvenated interest in practice. I've also been able to swallow "the bitter pill" of rudiment practice a lot easier. The Drum Rudiment System is "the sugar that makes the medicine go down"!

Excellent presentation both in content and delivery. I got the distinct impression that Lionel really cares about his students learning what he is sharing when speaking to the camera. Too many DVD instructors are busy being overly flashy and full of themselves, while promoting their current personal project when they should be teaching; but with Lionel, it is obviously that for him, it is about his students and their development!
The key thing for students of rock drumming is understanding how to apply the standard rudiments to the full kit. Too often beginning and advanced rock drummers ignore the essence of drumming, which is embodied in the rudiments, because they, or their teacher, has failed to make the connection from rudiments played solely on the snare drum, and bridging those skills and concepts to the full rock drum set; so those types of drummers never progress to their true potential; however Lionel does this most important thing quite well.
Being a full time instructor and the director of a music school, I wholeheartedly endorse Lionel Duperron's Drum Rudiment System DVD for our drum students, as essential reinforcing educational material for use at home, for both motivation and practice. Lionel's style is straightforward and easy to follow. He explains things completely and demonstrates techniques in simple concise steps. His exercises are challenging but very effective. This packet is also a very good tool if you are a drum teacher. The videos are interesting and effective.
The System has been helpf,ul in increasing my speed and technique. In addition I have developed new breaks and additional beats that are great for use when performing. I would recommend this set to any serious drummer.

As a beginner drummer who started e-drums at age 55, Lionel shows me the true basics of the drum rudiment with an easy-to-understand video on how to do it. With this system you can repeat each segment until you feel comfortable with it. I cannot wait to go through each section and truly master the beginner basics of drum rudimentation. Then I can move onto the Intermediate section!
Once you do the Beginner part of it you can migrate forward to the Intermediate then Advanced sections of the DVDs. I have not graduated to either section as yet, but plan to be more of a true drummer at that time. That is what will happen when you master this, you will be a true drummer at that time and at any time you feel you need a refresher, pick up the DVD and go right to what you want to.

I personally like the way the instructions are filmed using a variety of speeds and angles. That combined with Mr. Duperron’s patient, reassuring, a detailed instructions allows the student to perform better and retain more; nice job!!!
One aspect of my drumming that I have noticed significant improvement in since I’ve started the system, is the sticking speed in which I can perform; the movements are faster and more fluid; The Drum Rudiment System has definitely expanded my playing ability!!!

The Drum Rudiment System has an easily accessible menu index and great,multiple camera angles for instant viewing and learning. Lionel has a soothing voice and easy delivery which I find very inspiring and motivating.
The highlight of this system has been correctly practicing the rudiments on the pad, and then hitting the kit and noticing how much better and more interesting my playing has become. My favorite lessons were the diddles and drags.
I'm becoming more relaxed and confident that I can learn how to play this instrument. I'm learning how to execute many ideas in my head, and pick up licks,etc from more advanced drummers. But most of all, at age 63 and retired, I'm having "BIG FUN" ! Thank You All!!

I like the way the camera angles and different views are shown.. the music notes are shown and in several speeds. I enjoyed the way he presented the program and spoke to you, it was like your own private lesson with Lionel.

The video shows the correct method for achieving success with the rudiments. Lionel's methods really work!
First and foremost just being able to see the rudiments being played is extremely helpful. Being able to revisit them as often as needed is a real bonus, one that you won't get with a teacher (unless you're willing to pay!). I enjoyed the paradiddle lesson best.
I have noticed an increase in speed and endurance. Being taught how to play while relaxed is so important and this can only help. I can't wait to apply the lessons learned to the drum set!

His slow teaching means that you don't get lost, you can watch it with a practice pad or next to a drum kit etc. pause it and slowly work on what you just saw without having to re-wind to make sure you know what you are doing.
What I mainly begun to work on were double strokes and para-diddles, so far they have improved drastically, I can play them even and they sound a lot better than before. Admittedly the DVD helped quite a lot.

I really like the fact that Lionel breaks the rudiments down to a very simple motion. And he also shows how to use it in a beat and a fill.
I have been trying to learn to play paradiddles with consistancy and speed for over a year. With Lionel's teaching style, I have been able to play them with great consistancy and work them into beats and fill at speeds up to 180bpm.
I have noticed alot more confidence and ease when playing or learning a new song. I can hear a beat or fill in a song and know what rudiment they just played. I get compliments on how solid my drumming is after only about one and a half years of drumming.

For me the highlight it was the beggining. On the "pad" lessons it made me more precise on the hands, and maked the following lessons easy.
Well... it improved me essentially in my band. There were rythms that I never imagined... So I called it a very worthwhile DVD.

I like how he goes into great detail about how to play a certain rhythm. He gives you multiple points of view and various speeds that enable the student to learn quicker and correctly.
My highlight was that feeling of success when I play a rudiment I have been working on for a while, which would have been harder to do without this system. My favorite lesson was the double stroke roll because I had a lot of trouble with this one but Lionel explained it well and it aided my progress.

He was very kind and patient instantly, easily allowing me to relax knowing how much there was to learn. The attention to detail and replays of every rudiment allowed for me to take notes as well as follow along at a slow pace, to practice correctly before trying to increase speed.
It was incredibly satisfying to be able to play the rudiments quickly, albeit very slowly at an early stage in the process of studying. Watching different or the same segment over and over again to master a rudiment was not tedious, but very helpful they way the slow motion and angles were shot. My favorite things to watch were when Lionel showed how the rudiments can apply to the set, and watching him do his solos and other skills on the set.
The Rudiments I realized were an integral part of learning the drums, no matter what stage of ability you were at. They allowed greater flow and continuity when running into more difficult beats and playing styles since you could relate the Rudiments to how the beats were played, even if they were played on all parts of the set, not just a practice pad or snare drum.

I have been out of drumming for a few years and had tons of rust to brush off. I have ordered other training courses from Railroad for this reason. So far, my highlight was when I stomped the flam parradiddles!!

The most likeable part of Lionel's teaching style, is he teaches like someone who's right there in that room, having a conversation with you. It makes you feel like he knows that you're less talented than him, and he's slowing down his instruction just so you can catch every word and feeling. He has the ability to identify with almost anyone and makes you feel like he's right there with you, in your own home.
My favourite lessons were the easier parts, the actual rudiments themselves on the practise pad. Most drummers are only too happy to show off their skills to you but Lionel takes it easy like he's teaching a brand new drummer for the first time. Well, this Drum Rudiment System helped me pass my exams in Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore :D
I have noticed that my rudiments are really smooth and even, even though they're not at godspeed. But I can manage things like the paradiddle at speeds of 150-180 BPM and when i slow down my playing with a camera, it IS even.
Also, I no longer struggle to remember the sticking for most rudiments. Someone says "Lesson 25" or "Paraddidle-diddle" and off my hands go, without thinking.

I love how Lionel demonstrates the rudiments in a practical sense on the drumset and not only in a theoretical sense on a drum pad. When I first started playing I had a couple instructional tapes that showed how to play several rudiments on a pad. At the time I didn't see the usefulness of these rudiments and completely neglected them for many years of my playing. This DVD is great because it shows how to use them in a way that inspires you to actually want to learn and practice them. It's one thing to simply use them as hand exercises on the pad, but it's another thing entirely to use them to actually make music!
This DVD gave me a new appreciation for flams. All of the lessons that have advanced uses for flams (swiss army triplet, flamaddidle, etc) are some of my favorites. I also really liked the various forms of the paradiddle when used in beats.
Not only have I have noticed a big difference in how much control I have over my weaker left hand (which comes naturally from practicing rudiments) but my creativity has improved as well. Trying out different rudiments makes it easy to break outside of my typical beats and fills and create things that I would never have thought of.

My favorite is flams. They give such colour to my playing. They take a little more work to master, yet Lionel makes it easy to understand. Also, adding them to other rudiments gives punch to my fills. Finally, I feel Lionel has taken me to the next level in drumming.

The Drum Rudiment System is absolutely packed with useful information. The delivery style from Lionel's approach right through to the camera work is excellent allowing maximum opportunity to grasp the information being demonstrated.
I am now able to figure out beats and drum patterns through knowledge of rudiments which has been invaluable. So far I am focusing on single stroke rolls, double stroke rolls and para diddles. I do like all the para diddle rolls and find these fun to play.
I have gained consistency in time keeping from knowing more about the rudiment and thus being able to apply it to a beat consistently. My fills have improved and are more varied and different. I can expand on my overall playing as I am so much more knowledgeable overall.

Mr. Duperron is very patient. No matter how many times I replayed a lesson, he never seemed to mind. :) I liked the fact that he talks to you like you *don't* know what he's talking about, so he is very clear in what he is showing you. It is a great way to learn.
Any time I learn something new is exciting. In this case, I was relearning things I hadn't done in years. After 30 years of playing in rock bands, I'd lost much of the basics. This DVD system reintroduced me to techniques and fundamentals that I really needed to be a better drummer.
Sometimes, playing in a working band puts you in a bubble where you stick only with what you know. By following the Drum Rudiment System's techniques and Mr. Duperron's excellent teaching style my playing is not only faster, but more comfortable. Overall, the best thing about this system is it is comprehensive. It's very specific on how to get started and moves you through quickly. It makes you want to get to the next section.
Being someone that has never taken lessons, I'm always skeptical of any product that says it's simple to follow and understand. But I was able to follow all the different rudiments and instructions easily. I particularly like the paradiddle and 6 stroke rudiment applications.
